Objectives
The Centre has been set up to promote positive self-esteem of sexual minorities and in turn, promote sexual health to fight the spread of STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections), especially HIV infection (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), which causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

Rationale
Mainstream social and sexual health resources are unlikely to be GLBT-friendly and may not serve the specific needs of sexual minorities. Social stigma also discourages sexual minorities from accessing mainstream resources. The Centre fills this need.

Strategies
Pelangi Pride Centre aims to empower sexual minorities and also to protect them from HIV/STI by encouraging:

1. Sexual health knowledge and behaviour. Ignorance and misinformation can prevent people from adopting safer sexual practices. Proper sexual health knowledge and behaviour are key to fighting the spread of HIV/STI.

2. Positive self-image. Shame and low self-esteem may lead to high-risk sexual behaviour. A healthy understanding and pride in our sexualities encourages us to take care of ourselves and adopt safer sexual practices.

3. Strong community spirit. Isolation and alienation can lead individuals to be irresponsible towards others in the community through reckless sexual behaviour. A strong and nurturing community encourages its members to behave responsibly.

Resources
Pelangi Pride Centre will provide three types of resources to empower the GLBT community: Library and Archives, Information Resources, and a physical Community Space.
