Golden Village celebrates love and acceptance at 10th edition of Love & Pride Film Festival
Press Release
Singapore, 14 September 2018– Film aficionados, rejoice! For the 10th year running, Golden Village’s ever-popular Love & Pride Film Festival is back once again, featuring a scintillating lineup of internationally acclaimed foreign titles across 9 days.
Curated by the Singapore Film Society (SFS), this year’s pick of independent film titles centre around the theme of ‘acceptance’, not simply focused on the LGBT community but also of one’s self, and promises to deliver stories that captivate and resonate with audiences.
The 10th edition of the Love & Pride Film Festival will commence on 4 October with a screening of 2018 Hong Kong International Film Festival award-winning Japanese film Of Love and Law. The film follows the story of two Japanese men who are both lovers and partners in Japan’s only LGBT law firm, where they expose and challenge the status quo that deems them second-class citizens in their homeland. After the screening, there will be an exclusive 30-minute Skype Q&A session with film director Hikaru Toda.
Another much-heralded picture in the roster is this year’s Sundance grand jury prize winner, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, starring Chloë Grace Moretz. Adapted from the 2012 coming-of-age story by Emily M. Danforth, the movie sheds insight into the practice of ‘conversion therapy’ when Cameron Post (Moretz) is shipped off to a conversion therapy centre after she’s caught with another girl in the back seat of a car on prom night. Despite being subjected to over-the-top “de-gaying” methods, it’s at this unlikely setting that Cameron is able to connect with her peers and find her place among fellow outcasts.
Other featured films include Sorry Angel (French), The Heiresses (Spanish), I Miss You When I See You (Cantonese) and Alifu, The Prince/ss (Mandarin).
Film enthusiasts can catch the festival at Golden Village Grand, Great World City and Golden Village VivoCity. Tickets for the opening night are priced at $23 for GV Movie Club members and $25 for the public, which includes light refreshments before the movie.
Tickets for all other screenings are priced at $10 for GV Movie Club and Singapore Film Society members, and $13 for the public.
Below is a schedule of the screenings. All films are rated R21 due to homosexual theme and content.
